MIRA Coalition’s Intro to Immigration: 2027 Winter Training Series!

This five-part virtual lunch hour series will present relevant, up-to-date, and accurate information on immigration topics.

You can attend all 5 trainings, or choose individual sessions. This series is open to all individuals who would like to increase their knowledge of immigration-related topics and learn about helpful resources for working with immigrant populations. This is an introductory training series – no prior experience or knowledge is necessary!

Join us on the following dates from 12:00-1:00 p.m. EST! Please note registration for each training session closes at 11:30am on the day of each training.

• Wednesday, January 13: ABCs of Immigration
  Our signature introductory training session provides an overview of common immigration statuses, the privileges and restrictions associated with each, and common pathways to obtain legal immigration status — including through family and humanitarian protections.
• Wednesday, January 27: Resources and Benefits for Immigrants
  Participants will receive an orientation to resources available to immigrants in Massachusetts, including a brief overview of public benefits eligibility, tips in navigating the legal services landscape, information on organizations offering accompaniment and support, and available tools and materials to help immigrants navigate the immigration system and interactions with immigration enforcement. 
• Wednesday, February 10: Understanding Immigration Court  
  Record numbers of people are facing deportation proceedings in immigration court and more than 60,000 people are held in civil immigration detention every day. This training will review the basics of deportation proceedings, including types of hearings in immigration court, the life of an immigration court case, and basic rights in immigration court, as well as an introduction to immigration detention in Massachusetts and beyond.  Participants will learn about basic tools and resources to support those navigating immigration court processes. 
• Wednesday, February 24: Immigration Policy Updates and the Work Ahead 
  It can be challenging to stay current with the ever-changing landscape of immigration policy. In this session, we’ll discuss some of the many changes that have occurred in recent months both at the federal and state levels, and what MIRA Coalition’s advocacy is focused on for the future.
• Wednesday, March 10: How You Can Show Up for Immigrants
  This training will empower participants to be a resource and support to immigrants. Participants will also learn how to show up for immigrants by learning to effectively communicate with policymakers and legislators and uncover opportunities to take an active role as an immigrant rights advocate with the MIRA Coalition and our member organizations.

Registration
You can register for each session for $15 OR register for all 5 topics for $70. Registered participants will receive a copy of the slides and a recording of the session which will be viewable for 30 days.

The training is free for staff of MIRA member organizations who have paid their annual dues. Reach out to us at training@miracoalition.org to receive the access code to register.
