BOSTON, MA – The Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition’s (MIRA) Executive Director, Elizabeth Sweet, issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to bar President Trump’s executive order to end birthright citizenship nationwide from going into effect.
“The Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the United States’ Constitution and protect America’s immigrant community sends a direct message to President Trump and all future leaders that birthright citizenship is a fundamental constitutional right guaranteed by the 14th Amendment. We are grateful that this legal battle is now over, but recognize that continued attacks on immigrants remain. MIRA remains steadfast in our advocacy to protect immigrants in Massachusetts and across the country.”
