Expanded Travel Ban
The Trump administration has announced an expansion of the existing travel ban, adding to the following to the already existing list of 12 countries impacted by full restrictions on issuance of immigrant and nonimmigrant visas:
- Burkina Faso
- Mali
- Niger
- South Sudan
- Syria
- Individuals holding Palestinian-Authority issued documents
- Laos (previously subject to partial restrictions)
- Sierra Leone (previously subject to partial restrictions)
The expanded ban suspends issuance of immigrant and tourist, student, and exchange visas for the following countries (while lifting restrictions on issuance of nonimmigrant visas for Turkmenistan):
- Angola
- Antigua and Barbuda
- Benin
- Cote d’Ivoire
- Dominica
- Gabon
- The Gambia
- Malawi
- Mauritania
- Nigeria
- Senegal
- Tanzania,
- Tonga
- Zambia
- Zimbabwe
The travel ban does not apply to:
- current green card holders
- people who were already granted a visa to travel to the United States before January 1, 2026
- people who are already in the United States before January 1, 2026
- certain athletes, religious workers, and Special Immigrant Visa holders
The ban no longer provides for an exception for those entering as green card holders as spouses, children, and parents of US citizens, but allows for case by case exceptions.
Extension de l’interdiction
L’administration Trump a annoncé une extension de l’interdiction de voyage existante, ajoutant les pays suivants à la liste des 12 pays déjà touchés par des restrictions totales sur la délivrance de visas d’immigrant et de non-immigrant:
- Burkina Faso
- Mali
- Niger
- Soudan du Sud
- Syrie
- Les personnes titulaires de documents délivrés par l’Autorité Palestinienne
- Laos (précédemment soumis à des restrictions partielles)
- Sierra Leone (précédemment soumise à des restrictions partielles)
L’extension de l’interdiction suspend la délivrance de visas d’immigrant, de tourisme, d’étudiant et d’échange pour les pays suivants (tout en levant les restrictions sur la délivrance de visas de non-immigrant pour le Turkménistan):
- Angola
- Antigua-et-Barbuda
- Bénin
- Côte d’Ivoire
- Dominique
- Gabon
- Gambie
- Malawi
- Mauritanie
- Nigéria
- Sénégal
- Tanzanie
- Tonga
- Zambia
- Zimbabwe
L’interdiction de voyage ne s’applique pas aux :
- titulaires actuels d’une carte verte
- personnes ayant déjà obtenu un visa pour se rendre aux États-Unis avant le 1er janvier 2026
- personnes se trouvant déjà aux États-Unis avant le 1er janvier 2026
- certains athlètes, travailleurs religieux et titulaires d’un visa d’immigrant spécial
L’interdiction ne prévoit plus d’exception pour les personnes entrant en tant que titulaires d’une carte verte, conjoints, enfants ou parents de citoyens américains, mais permet des exceptions au cas par cas.
