Liz McCarthy joined MIRA in November 2025 as a Senior Staff Attorney with the Massachusetts Access to Counsel Initiative (MACI). She brings over eight years of experience advancing access to justice for immigrant communities in Massachusetts through direct representation, large-scale program design, and attorney mentorship.

Prior to MIRA, Liz oversaw the launch of the Boston Immigration Court Helpdesk, which provided vital legal information and support to thousands of unrepresented respondents navigating removal proceedings. She has represented children and adults in humanitarian matters and defense before the immigration court. She is deeply committed to trauma-informed, client-centered advocacy.

Previously, Liz facilitated civil rights and anti-discrimination education at MIT and spent a year teaching 4th grade in rural Honduras. She holds a J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law and is bilingual in English and Spanish.
