Our Shared Table 2018

Every year, to kick off the holiday season, MIRA hosts a luncheon at the State House for newly sworn-in U.S citizens and other immigrants and refugees. Elected officials, MIRA members, and supporters join us to celebrate our Commonwealth’s rich diversity, share personal stories and make new connections.

This year’s luncheon, in the Hall of Flags, highlighted emerging leaders in our communities, including newly elected officials from the federal, to the state, to the local level. For the second year in a row, we honored a Young Champion of Justice – this time, Rep. Juana Matias; we also heard from Juliette Mayers, founder and CEO of Inspiration Zone LLC; Iván Espinoza-Madrigal, executive director of Lawyers for Civil Rights; Damaris Velásquez, director of programs of Agencia ALPHA; and Rahmatullah Aka, of the International Institute of New England. Our emcee was the Boston Globe editorial writer Marcela García.
