Citizenship for New Americans

The Citizenship for New Americans (CNA) program funds organizations to assist immigrants in the naturalization process.  CNA came into existence in 2006, when MIRA and its membership and partners secured $500,000 for the program in the state budget.  With this funding, the Massachusetts Office for Refugee and Immigrants has awarded 13 contracts to organizations across the state to provide citizenship and naturalization services to low-income immigrants.  The MIRA Coalition provides training and technical assistance for the grantees.  Click here for a list of citizenship service providers.

More funding is needed to help more than 300,000 legal immigrants who are eligible for naturalization in Massachusetts but may need ESOL classes, civics classes and guidance through the naturalization process.
