Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (D- Texas) introduced H.R. 4038, a bill to provide for more efficient and effective protection of the borders of the U.S.
Senator Kay Hutchison (R-Tx) introduced 1823, a bill to empower state and local governments to prosecute illegal aliens and to authorize the Secretary of homeland Security to establish a pilot Volunteer Border Marshal Program. The name of the bill is “Illegal Immigration Enforcement and Empowerment Act.”
Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) introduced S.1815, a bill to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to prescribe the binding oath or affirmation of reunification and allegiance required to be naturalized as a citizen of the U.S. and to encourage and support the efforts of prospective citizens of the U.S. to become citizens. This proposal called “ Strengthening American Citizenship Act: would provide education grants of up to $500 for immigrants who wish to become citizens to take English courses. Additionally, it would provide for grants to organizations to provide classes in American history and civics. This proposal would also codify the oath of allegiance, which currently exist only in federal regulations. Lastly, the proposal calls for the Secretary of the Department Homeland Security to develop a plan that would encourage public awareness of naturalization ceremonies.
