Obama Administration Appoints New Personnel to DHS

2/24/2009 1:49 pm - New Assistant Secretaries for ICE and Policy named.

On Monday, President Obama announced his intention to nominate John Morton to be the new Assistant Secretary for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.  Mr. Morton has served in the Department of Justice since 1994 and has a practice background in criminal immigration law, human rights, and international violent crime.

Also on Monday, DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano named Esther Olavarria to be the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy.  Ms. Olavarria has twenty years experience working in immigration policy, including at the Center for American Progress, as Counsel for Senator Kennedy, Managing Attorney for the Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center, Directing Attorney for the American Immigration Lawyers Association Pro Bono Project, and staff attorney for the Haitian Refugee Center.
