Director of Adult Learning Programs

Job Description

Responsibilities Include:

 

·        Oversee all operations. Direct and coordinate ALP activities, in conjunction with staff: Curriculum development, program planning and development. Oversee all program design and implementation of learner-centered educational program. Ensure quality of instruction that reflects ALP mission;

 

·        Grant writing and management, budget development and monitoring, purchasing. Write all monthly, quarterly and year-end program reports per requirements of each funding agency and JPCC. Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate all staff.  Facilitate bi-weekly staff meetings. Prepare payroll, maintain personnel records;

 

·        Serve as liaison with outside community agencies. Promote activities and mission of ALP and advocate on behalf of staff and students of Adult Basic Education locally and statewide.

 

·        Actively participate in work of JP Adult Basic Education Network, Boston Adult Literacy Initiative and other relevant coalitions;

 

·        Develop productive relationships with funders. Attend funder meetings and trainings;

 

Stay informed of emerging adult literacy issues and initiatives. Design and lead implementation of  programming, in collaboration with staff,  that is aligned with field standards, policy mandates, shifts in constituent and community demographics and needs.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

 

3-5 years experience with program development, management, grant writing, and fiscal management. Supervisory experience. Prior leadership and advocacy experience in community based organizations serving low-income people with limited education and/or immigrants with limited English proficiency. Ability to give attention to both day-to-day operational details and broader policy and funding climate. Prior Adult Basic Education experience, familiarity with Mass DOE funding and/or relevant Masters degree preferred. Bilingual a plus (especially Spanish or French/Haitian Creole).
